At AdventHealth Centra Care, we understand the importance of providing comfort and care—especially during the colder months. It’s not hard to remember January 20, 2025 when the governor declared a state of emergency due to the cold. That’s why we’ve launched CareBlankets.org, a community-driven initiative designed to bring warmth to those in need through the power of generosity and creativity.
Over the next seven months, talented volunteers across Florida will be crafting beautiful, handmade blankets—quilts, afghans, and more—all in preparation for the chillier days of November through February. It’s more than just a project; it’s a shared mission to spread warmth, love, and hope throughout the communities we serve.

Number of Volunteer Blanketers for Florida Care Blanket Program Passes the 1,000 Mark in Just Three Months
Spreading Warmth and Hope Across Florida, Individuals are contributing their time and talents to AdventHealth Centra Care’s program, making handmade blankets, quilts, and afghans.
Care Blankets – an initiative launched by AdventHealth Centra Care just a few months ago, is announcing today that over 1,000 people are already volunteering to help provide warmth and comfort to those in need during the winter months to come. These volunteers contribute their time, talent, and treasures to the program. Volunteers make handmade blankets, quilts, afghans, and more enabling AdventHealth Centra Care to distribute “heart-and-hand-made” blankets to those in need in the community.
Last winter, a cold wave led to a state of emergency declaration for the State of Florida. With 12.3% of Florida’s population living below the poverty line, the demand for warmth has never been greater. Many families, especially those facing financial hardships, lack access to adequate heating or warm blankets during colder months.
While Florida may not experience extreme winter temperatures as frequently as other states, frosty nights and brisk mornings can bring significant hardship, especially for vulnerable individuals and families without access to adequate heating or cozy blankets.
AdventHealth Centra Care is responding in advance this year by rallying community support and encouraging volunteers to join the effort.
“The original goal was to have hundreds of blankets made by this Fall,” explained a spokesperson for the Central Florida Care Blanket program, “but the people of Central Florida have stepped up with such enthusiasm that has surpassed expectations. We will now have over two thousand blankets to distribute, as some individuals have already made and donated more than a dozen just themselves.”
The Florida Care Blanket program is already partnering with local organizations like Samaritan Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice and The Coalition for the Homeless to distribute the blankets to those in need. The blankets can be dropped off in the lobby of any of the 54 AdventHealth Centra Care locations in Florida.
